How to Choose Between a Tamil Immigration Lawyer and a Licensed RCIC
தமிழ் சட்டத்தரணி மற்றும் குடிவரவு ஆலோசகரைத் தேர்ந்தெடுப்பது எப்படி
Know when to retain a CICC-licensed immigration consultant versus a Law Society member for spousal sponsorships, Express Entry, Humanitarian & Compassionate (H&C) applications, or Federal Court appeals.
Canadian immigration law affects nearly every extended Tamil family—whether sponsoring parents or grandparents via the Super Visa program, uniting spouses from Sri Lanka, India, or Europe, transitioning international students from PGWP work permits to Permanent Residence, or navigating refugee and Humanitarian & Compassionate (H&C) pathways. Across our 152 Legal & Immigration profiles, Tamil-speaking practitioners help applicants prepare accurate statutory declarations, Tamil-to-English certified document translations, and relationship evidence packages.
Under Section 91 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA), no person may knowingly represent or advise a client for a fee unless they are a lawyer in good standing with a provincial law society, a Chambre des notaires du Québec member, or a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) registered with CICC. Note that only a licensed lawyer (barrister and solicitor) can represent you in the Federal Court of Canada for a judicial review of a refused visa or removal order.
Verification & Action Checklist
- Look up the practitioner's license number on the Law Society of Ontario (LSO) Directory or CICC Public Register before paying any deposit.
- Always sign a formal Retainer Agreement that itemizes professional legal fees separately from IRCC government processing fees.
- Keep copies of every application form (IMM forms) and official IRCC submission confirmation receipts.
